Toronto’s Royal Ontario Museum brings art, culture, and natural history together across galleries and exhibitions, with dinosaur displays, objects from around the world, and specimens spanning Earth’s history. Families can add hands-on discovery in the Discovery and Hands-on Biodiversity galleries, play-based learning in WonderWorks, and rotating natural-world activities at Earth Rangers Studio on many weekends. ROM also offers family programming and guided tours; the particular exhibitions, activities, and interactive stations available can change, and some may be temporarily offline.

Room for discovery

What can you explore?

  • WonderWorks is a play-based learning space primarily designed for families with children ages 3–8; the museum says all are welcome.
  • Earth Rangers Studio offers rotating interactive experiences on topics such as biodiversity, bird migration, and coral reefs; the official kids page says it is open most weekends, 11 a.m.–4 p.m., when its doors are open.
  • Families can explore dinosaur displays, cultural collections, and natural-history galleries, including hands-on gallery spaces identified by ROM.
Suggested interest ages
Suggested interests: ages 3–17
Editorial age guidance
Editorial planning suggestion, not an admission rule: ages 3–17 reflect the museum’s family appeal and ROM’s own description of WonderWorks as primarily designed for ages 3–8, while galleries and exhibits also offer broader interests for older children and teens. Babies and toddlers can still visit with adults, and ROM lists separate caregiver-accompanied early-learning programs for babies/toddlers. No museum-wide minimum admission age is stated in the reviewed visitor pages. WonderWorks has a separate rule: children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Check any event or program's own age terms.
Visitor planning notes
ROM encourages advance ticket purchase; displayed prices can change by date. Strollers are permitted, but oversized strollers may not be allowed on busy days; stroller parking/checking is subject to availability and restrictions. Backpack-style child carriers and wagons are not permitted. Family-friendly washrooms, seating, and a main-floor coffee bar are noted on the kids page. Some interactives may be offline, and construction/partial gallery closures may affect routes; check current visitor information. Indoor museum visit; official visitor information advises an extra layer in summer because the building is kept cool. Ask ROM about current ticket availability, stroller arrangements, gallery status, and accessibility needs.
